About Us

Hillside Veterinary Hospital is located in Victoria, British Columbia. We have been welcoming and caring for patients since 1982. The well-being of our community's animals is important to us! We give back to a variety of local animal rescue organizations.

After working at Hillside Veterinary Hospital for many years, Drs. Jennifer Chan, Sylvie Abrioux and Glynis Newman took on the ownership of the practice in 2004. Three associate veterinarians have joined our hospital: Dr. Rachel Borwein (2007), Dr. Jane Vermeulen (2011), and Dr. Laurie Gaines (2011). Our dedicated staff also includes several registered animal health technologists, rehabilitation technicians, veterinary assistants, receptionists, a practice manager, and two very special hospital cats.

Hillside Veterinary Hospital was one of the first practices to offer Acupuncture and Chiropractic services. Extensive renovations were completed in April 2008, including the installation of Vancouver Island's first hydro treadmill. We are the Island’s first comprehensive veterinary rehabilitation facility.

Open 7 days a week, our practice is a full hospital facility offering a balanced holistic approach to pet’s health needs from traditional to complementary medicine. We offer a wide range of services to promote our patients' good health, including patient examination, on site anesthesia, surgery, dentistry, radiology, nursing care, laboratory services, and a full pharmacy, including herbal medicines. Hillside Veterinary Hospital has been voted in the Top 3 Pet Clinics in Victoria every year since 2009.

We are proud of our unique approach to veterinary medicine, and are always striving towards new learning and technology. Most recently we have purchased new diagnostic tools to serve our patients: HM5 laboratory equipment (2009) and Digital X-ray equipment (2010).
