Dr. Laurie Gaines

Veterinarian

Dr. Laurie Gaines is from Eastern Ontario, near Brockville. She
attended Carleton University in Ottawa and completed her first degree
in 1999. Laurie worked full time in the computer software industry in
Ottawa and New York State after graduation but spent most of her spare
time volunteering and working at the SPCA, a veterinary practice, and
a zoo. Finally, Laurie decided to turn her love for animals into a
career. She attended the Ontario Veterinary College in Guelph for four
years and has been working as a veterinarian on Vancouver Island since
2009. Dr Gaines joined the Hillside team in May 2011.

Laurie’s main interests include feline medicine, dentistry, small
mammal exotics, and the application of computer technology to the
veterinary profession. She enjoys exploring Vancouver Island’s many
hiking trails and beaches. Laurie loves to read, canoe, swim, travel,
and spoil her niece and nephew. Laurie and her boyfriend Gregg live in
the Shawnigan Lake area with their five rescued cats, Nermal, Isis,
Boo, Zumi and Mack, and a Flemish Giant bunny named Herbie.
